Replacing and Resetting perimeter coping stones

Step 1: Removing the coping stones

Removing stone is never pretty. 50% of the underlying porcelain tiles will either fall off or become broken in the process. It is best to replace both the tile and coping tones together.

Step 2: Repairing the beam

The beam is where the coping stones are set. This is also where the tile line is vertically set. Many times, the reason coping stones become loose is because of beam damage. The beam is made of concrete and when it wears, the stones lose their base attachment.

Step 3: Setting the new stone

This process takes finesse, precision measuring, and cutting. special attention needs to be given to tight angles. Knowledge of the sensitivity of different stones is key. The correct type/color of grout needs to be used, even for the tiles.
