Emptying the pool
The first thing that we do before any resurfacing is empty the pool. This is NOT as straightforward as one might think. If the hydrostatic pressure beneath the pool is not managed properly, if left empty, pools above high water tables can float!

Prepping the surface
The next step is preparing the shell for the new plaster! Some companies use a method called BOND KOTE... Big no-no! This causes delamination later on and earlier than the chipping method. When resurfacing a plaster pool, we use a similar chipping process being sure to chip 4" below the tiles before starting. This allows the plaster to adhere in a superior way for long lasting results! The rim of all fittings and lights as well as skimmer mouths need to be chipped as well.

Applying the plaster
There are several types of plaster clients can choose to use on their gunite shell. We have Diamond Brite (very popular but costs additional) & white plaster (Marble dust). Either way you decide to go, the plaster will need to be troweled on by hand. This process requires a specific type of finesse and expertise to ensure the most even finish possible. Not only does our team wear spiked shoes during the application to ensure less disruption, but they also wear foam bases for the polishing touches!
